A wedding is about unity.

Wedding plans are in high gear and now is the time to work on stationery such as invitations, programs and thank you cards. I have noticed a common trend with how parents or bride/grooms want their parents’ names to be listed.

Your parents, if they are still married to each other should be listed as Mr. and Mrs. Father of the Brides last name (i.e. Mr. and Mrs. John Doe). So many times, I see John and Mary Doe or Mr. John Doe and Mrs. Mary Doe.

How can this be? This an event of oneness and unity. Shouldn’t the names be unified when referencing a husband and wife? This is something that should be listed on all stationery material.

According to etiquette protocol, names listed separately tells your guests that the parents are no longer together.

Keep that in mind when wording invitations or addressing envelopes.

Reusable cards

I received in the mail information about reusing a card. The concept is a great one but very new to me. I was very intrigued with the presentation and wanted to learn more about reusing cards.

Why regreet?
How’d we come up with this idea anyway? Well, it all started with the card …Even in the age of Facebook gifting and tweeted birthday wishes, nothing replaces the warm fuzzies of opening an actual card. At regreet, we were inspired by a stack of cards lying around after a big birthday party.

What should we do? Recycle them? Hold onto them? There had to be a fun way to reuse them and pass the fun along. We built in tracking to follow the journey and watch how far our greetings traveled – and calculate our own mpg – miles per greeting.

We expanded the connections with hop-a-round notes that make it easy to make someone’s day the regreet way … and to track the card’s journey as it hops around to someone else. Gratitude abounds when you hop these cards around – click to find out more.

DIY Invitations for your Special Event

I have met with many clients over the last few weeks that wanted their invitations to not exceed a certain amount of money. Depending on the overall look and vision of the couples’ wedding, the budget can be adhered to and some cases it can not.

In your wanting to “save money”, you may end up spending more money in the long run. Make sure when you make the decision to go the DIY route, you take into consideration the following factors:

1. Cost of paper (Retail) – If you need a certain quantity of invitations, remember you will have to buy more paper to factor in mistakes.

2. Printing Cost (i.e. Office Depot, Kinkos, or even your home printer) Ink costs money.

3. Design Cost

4. Time/Labor- A job that may take a professional 4 hours could take you 4 times that amount of time. In some cases you may enlist the help of family and friends who did not sign up to be a part of a DIY project.
